U.S. Visible | N.M. VisibleU.S. Visible (Loop) | N.M. Visible (Loop) - Visible satellite images of the contiguous United States and New Mexico, updated approximately every 30 minutes, from the Research Applications Program (RAP) of the National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR).  Visible satellites detect reflected sunlight, thus clouds are brighter and land/water appear darker in the image.  Visible satellite images are not available during the nighttime hours.
U.S. Infrared | N.M. InfraredU.S. Infrared (Loop) | N.M. Infrared (Loop) - Color-enhanced infrared satellite images of the contiguous United States and New Mexico, updated approximately every 30 minutes from the Research Applications Program (RAP) of the National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR).  Infrared satellites detect the temperature of an object; warm objects emit more infrared radiation than colder objects.  The satellite measures this energy difference and converts it to a temperature.  High clouds, which are colder, emit less infrared radiation and appear green to bluish.  Low clouds, which are warmer, emit more infrared radiation and appear orange to reddish.  During the daytime, land will also be warm and appear red.
U.S. Water VaporU.S. Water Vapor (Loop) | N.M. Water Vapor (Loop) - A color-enhanced, water vapor satellite image of the contiguous United States, updated approximately every 30 minutes from the Research Applications Program (RAP) of the National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR).  This image provides information on the presence of water vapor in the mid-to-upper part of the troposphere by examining an infrared band of the radiation spectrum that is preferentially absorbed and emitted by water vapor.
